Shining All Along (poem)

Chaos in the cosmos.

A star falls.

Fades and fizzles,

Plummets.

But not me.

Two more collide.

Unite.

But not me.

Another star explodes.

Its particles shimmer.

Gleam.

And shimmy.

Cha-cha.

And separate.

Then soothe each other.

But not me.

Another one tries to glow.

Can’t.

Never to shine.

But not me.

Me?

I just sit here.

In my ripped up jeans

With my toes in the mud.

My feet on the ground.

Looking upward and singing.

Or waiting.

For?

Someone to hold me.

Tell me I’m incandescent.

And notice.

That invariably.

I have been shining all along.
